Some of the ways to deal with difficult people are:
- Listen to what they are saying and try to understand their views: Listening to what the person is trying to say can help avoid negative conflicts. Be a good listener and don’t do anything that will make them feel ill-treated.
- Always talk in a positive tone to avoid negativity: Even if you don’t agree with the points told by others, wait for some time and let them complete their thoughts. When given a chance to speak, always do so positively. Talking negatively will spoil the environment.
- Don’t argue and stay calm: Don’t respond until you feel the need for it. Some people have different views and they try to impose their views on others. Stay calm and deal with the situation. If the situation can’t be handled by you, take the help of your advisors.
- Try to understand people’s needs: Without understanding people’s needs, you can never help them.
- Give and take credit: Appreciating someone for their work motivates them and also inspires them to do well. However, regardless of the person’s behavior, you should always appreciate them for good work. And if some credit is given to you, then you should accept it as well.
- Never go off-limits: Always maintain a good distance with people of conflicting views. Set certain boundaries while working with them. If the situation goes out of control, seek the help of advisors.
- Give respect: Giving respect to everyone is a sign of an excellent CEO.
